Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry started functioning in the year 1985, in spite of its age it is a young and vibrant department, excellent in its teaching, innovative in research and responsible in shaping career and character of students. Our Dept provides education in undergraduate in Chemistry, with excellent infrastructural facilities and competent faculty.
The Department of Chemistry is one of the premier science departments of the College with a dedicated and committed group of teachers who are not only keen in imparting quality education to the students but are also actively engaged in research. We help each and everyone to develop analytical skills which are required in various industries through spacious laboratories, availability of chemicals, apparatus and most important the devoted sincere teaching and supportive staff. Our aim is not only to give theoretical knowledge but also to provide the students, exposure to the developing society so that they can build their future in a better way.
The department consists of three full time faculty members; all hold Ph. D. degree and five part time faculty members. Faculty members take efforts to make lectures more effective and useful by providing students with synopses of the lectures, internet sources etc. Practical experiments, unit tests, assignments, surprise tests, seminars, PowerPoint presentations, interactive discussions, projects, models, charts, also part of the teaching process.
Two faculty members are recognized Ph. D. supervisors of R.T.M. Nagpur University. The department has received research grants from UGC under minor project schemes.
Some have successfully completed minor research projects funded by UGC. Besides teaching, faculty members are also involved in research activities and have published papers in National and International peer reviewed journals and conferences. The faculty members have published books and also write chapter for International Publication. The major areas of research are the synthesis of polymeric surfactants, Microwave synthesis, Phytochemistry, Thermodynamics, Analytical study Formulation of detergents etc. The faculty members prepare students towards various intercollegiate competitions. Many of the students have brought laurels to the college by winning these competitions. The faculty members encourage students towards examinations such as JAM/NET/SET/GATE etc. With a view to develop personality and confidence amongst our students and in order to give them a cutting edge in a highly competitive world, the department organizes educational visits to National Institute, Industrial visits, Guest lectures, Quiz competition, Poster and Flex making competition on various topics.
