Seth Narsingdas Mor College of Arts, & Commerce & Smt. Godavaridevi Saraf Science College, Tumsar run by Gondia Education Society, Gondia is a brainchild of Shri. Manoharbhai Patel, a leading industrialist in erstwhile Bhandara district. Shri. Manoharbhai Patel had a sublime vision of carving highly educated and skilled citizens out of culturally, educationally and economically backward masses in the district. This vision shaped into establishment of the Gondia Education Society at Gondia way back in 1957. With the interest and help of a local industrialist and philanthropist, Seth Ramnarayanji Mor, in June, 1965, Seth Narsingdas Mor College came into existence at Tumsar with Arts and Commerce faculties. Since then, the institution has grown step by step including Science faculty in 1985, and addition in the Science faculty of the subjects Botany, Zoology and Computer Science, and in the Arts faculty of the subjects- Sociology, English Literature and Music, and Post Graduate (Music, and Post Graduate on no-grants - aided basis) in 1995 and thus, presently, it has multiple faculties in a true sense. As on today, the institution is one among many educational institutions in the Tehsil. However, this veteran institution, Seth Narsingdas Mor College of Arts, & Commerce & Smt. Godavaridevi Saraf Science College, Tumsar- 441912, has not lost its glory. Still, it is a leading institution, and grants admission to one and all, but, at times, on merit basis.
In the academic year 2018-19, 762 students have taken admission in the Arts faculty. In the faculty, to impart teaching, there are 02 Associate Professors and 13 Assistant Professors, thus making it 15 professors in all. 09 professors are Ph.D. holders. Dr. R. K. K. Dipte, HoD, English and Dr. R. J. Bhagat, HoD, Sociology are recognized supervisor for Ph.D. degree by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. 06 scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degree under the guidance of Dr. R. K. Dipte, and 02 scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degree under the guidance of Dr. R. J. Bhagat.
Some professors have published their theses in the form of books. Dr. R. J. Bhagat's thesis has been published as Migrated Bangaladeshi (स्थलांतरित बांग्लादेशी - Sthalantarit Bangaladeshi) and Dr. J. M. Maskey, HoD, Economics has published his research work entitled 'Urbanization and Problems' (शहरीकरणाचे स्वरूप व समस्या - Shaharikaranache Swarup Va Samasya). The teachers have presented their research papers in the State, National and International level conferences. Professors in the Arts faculty, namely, Dr. R. K. Dipte and Dr. Ms B. D. Katekhaye attended the International conference in Thailand and presented their research papers therein.
Under the aegis of Arts Association various programmes like August Kranti Din, Teacher's Day, Rashtrabhasha Hindi Diwas, Marathi Bhasha Diwas, The Constitution Day, etc. are celebrated, and also projects like Career Guidance are organized regularly.
In the academic year 2018-19, Ms. Shubhangi Badwaik and Ms. Manisha Titirmare shone in the Merit list of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. Shri Kaiwlya Gabhane got the First rank in the Merit list of the University. The students from the Arts faculty participated and won medals in sports at all levels.
The college Arts faculty teaching staff and students have been incessantly trying to maintain and enrich the great tradition of the college under the guidance of Shri A. R. Ramteke, HoD, History, Incharge Arts Faculty.
